FAQ

Getting Started

How do I get started?

Shoot us a call at 480-420-9191 and one of our professional pilots will be happy to walk you through the process, answer any questions, and set up your first flight experience!

What is a Discovery Flight, and why should I book one first?

A discovery flight is a great way to answer the question: Is flying for me?  In our introductory flight experience, you will meet the team here to support you, as well as the instructor you will be working with as you become a pilot.  It’s a great opportunity to ask all of the questions you have, and get your first hours in your logbook!

Do I need any prior experience to start flight training?

No!  We help busy working professionals with an incredibly diverse set of skills and life experience become a pilot every day!  Anyone with a passion for aviation and the motivation to achieve their goals can pursue a pilots license with zero prior experience.

Is there an age requirement to get my private pilot license?

The FAA requires pilots to be over 16 years of age to fly solo, and 17 or older to become licensed as a pilot in the US.

Pricing, Payment & Refunds

How much does it cost to get my private pilot license?

The answer no one likes to get – It Depends.  Since we cater our services to each individual’s unique needs, strengths, and weaknesses, there is some variance in final cost.

Do you offer financing or payment plans?

Yes!  We have a partnership with an independent 3rd party financing company - Stratus Financial.

What’s included in the training cost?

Two main components - most significantly, the aircraft hourly rental rate, which includes fuel.  Also your instructors time either in the air or on the ground, ensuring your skills and knowledge are constantly growing at the right pace.

What’s the deal with the $1,000 checkride guarantee?

Clients who follow our 90-day program, and meet all applicable benchmarks qualify for a $1000 checkride ready guarantee.  If you are not signed off with the skills and knowledge necessary to pass your final license checkride in 90 days, we will deposit $1000 into your account to cover additional training* at the current hourly rates.  Some restrictions apply.

Are there any hidden fees I should know about?

No hidden fees, that's not who we are.  There will be some pilot tools, equipment, insurance, etc that must be purchased outside of Relentless Flight.  Our team of professional instructors will be happy to guide and advise you on those purchases based off of our experience in the air and on the ground.

What happens if I take longer than 3 months to finish?

We are here for you!  Your training will continue billed at our current hourly rate based on the amount of aircraft and instructor time necessary to see you become a pilot!

Flight Training Experience

How many hours of training do I need to get my license?

We don’t believe in “one size fits all”.  Each Client’s needs, background, strengths, and weaknesses vary.  Our approach meets you where you are on an individual basis.  Nationally, the average total flight time of a private pilot graduate is 72 flight hours.

How often will I fly each week?

Our program is structured to most efficiently train busy working professionals.  We look to fly 3 times per week, Sunday through Saturday.

How long is each lesson?

Each flight will be approximately 2 hours in length.  Some more, some less.  There will be time pre-flight to perform required safety checks of the aircraft, and time after the flight to review what went well, and what areas need attention on your next flight.

What if I have a full-time job or a busy schedule?

Then you’re at the right place! Our owner, Kyle, struggled with the same situation when he started flying years ago.  He figured out how to optimally balance flight training with a stressful full time job as an engineer, and a young family.  That is what makes Relentless unique, we have the knowledge and experience necessary to ensure success for high achieving working professionals who are interested in aviation!

Who are your instructors? Are they certified?

Our team of highly curated flight training instructors is a crucial part of our proven success with busy professionals.  All of our instructors have experience in a diverse professional career setting prior to becoming Certified Flight Instructors. I believe this is critical in developing the personal relationships necessary to promote success in becoming a pilot.  Only one out of 200 applicants demonstrated the experience, qualities, skills, and mindset necessary to be successful here at Relentless.

What kind of planes will I be flying?

We fly a fleet of brand new Pipistrel Alpha Light Sport aircraft. They feature a full suite of flat panel, touchscreen avionics by Garmin.  We always say, if you can run an iPad, you can run these planes!  Additionally, each has the added safety of a full aircraft ballistic parachute safety system.

Requirements & Eligibility

Do I need perfect vision to become a pilot?

No! Typically, as long as corrective lenses or contacts correct your vision to 20/20 or better, you can get your flight medical approved with the condition that you MUST wear glasses or contacts while operating the aircraft.  We recommend consulting with an FAA Approved Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) for more information if you have concerns with any medically related questions, and are happy to provide a reference for AME’s that we have worked with!

What medical requirements are there?

The big issues we have seen are typically prescription related. Anti-depressants, SSRIs, ADD/ADHD medications, etc.  We recommend consulting an FAA Approve Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) for questions on any specific medical concerns, and are happy to provide a referral to local professionals in aviation medicine that we have worked with.

Is there a written exam or checkride involved?

Yes, each license requires a written knowledge exam, comprised of multiple choice questions. Additionally, a practical exam called a checkride is conducted at the conclusion of training by an FAA approved examiner.  The checkride is similar to a drivers license test, with an added oral interview prior to jumping in the plane to show off your new skills!

Can I train with you if I don’t live nearby?

Sure! We’ve had clients work with us from all over the Phoenix Valley area, and even from as far away as Prescott!

Scheduling & Enrollment

How soon can I start training?

Typically less than a week from saying “go”!

How long does it take to complete training on average?

Most will complete our Private Pilot training in 90 days.

What if the weather cancels a flight lesson?

Our schedule and instructors are flexible, we are happy to reschedule your flight for another day convenient to your schedule.

How do I reschedule a flight or ground lesson?

Contact your Instructor with your request or call 480-420-9191 and we will work with you to accommodate!
